Masterclass with Tom Kemp | Throwing Large Forms | Sunday 1 July | 10am - 4pm | £270 |

270.00

This one day intensive workshop will be taught by the highly acclaimed and talented potter, Tom Kemp. Tom has spent the past six years mastering the art of throwing large porcelain forms, and his exquisite work has attracted the attention of galleries, collectors and pottery enthusiast world wide. With 156,000 dedicated followers on Instagram, it’s really no surprise that Tom has become one of the shining stars of contemporary ceramics.

In the workshop, Tom will be focusing on increasing your throwing capacity and technique, in order to control and shape larger pieces. By the end of the class, we aim for every student to have built upon their existing knowledge and improve their skills, in the hopes that they will feel much more confident when they come to tackle a large piece of clay.

Please note that students should not expect to take work home at the end of the class. The aim of this masterclass is not to create a finished piece, but for students to come away with skills that they can continue to use and develop in their own practice.

The class is open to those with some previous experience and advanced throwers who wish to learn new techniques. There are six spaces available.

TOM KEMP

Tom says:

‘What’s the largest piece of clay you can comfortably throw? I’ll show you how to increase that by a kilo or two. The more clay you use, the more efficient you have to be about using the body to keep the clay under control. Centering, in particular is very much a matter of technique, rather than strength. Whatever your starting point, by the end of the class will have a lot more confidence about throwing much larger cylinders and vases’.

WHERE

The master class is taught at our beautiful studio in Hackney, 90 De Beauvoir Road, N1 4EN.
