Drop-in Handbook

Caught the clay-bug? Need some extra time to finish the projects you started within your course? Then our Drop-In Sessions could be perfect for you!

Running in the mezzanine space in our Clapton studio every Tuesday evening from 6:00pm - 9:00pm (including 30 minutes of clean-up time), the sessions give students the perfect opportunity to build up their pottery skills independently. A teacher will not be present for the drop in session, so we recommend the sessions to students who have completed a 12 week course with us, or equivalent elsewhere.

The session is held on the mezzanine floor as there will be a class taking place in the main studio space from the hours of 7:00pm - 9:30pm. This is run entirely seperately to the Drop-In and therefore the teacher of thie class is not available for the Drop-In session.

Although there will be no teacher present, you are not alone! One of our wonderful mentors will be on hand should you have any problems. In order to ensure that you are fully equipped to use the studio, please read our handbook.

GLAZING IS NOT PERMITTED DURING THIS DROP-IN. Please book one of our other Drop-In sessions for access to the glazes. Please collect all tools and clay needed from the main studio space at the beginning of the drop in and use the sinks and workspace in the mezzanine only during the Drop-In.

Drop-In students are welcome to use all tools and slips free of charge, and clay is charged at £5 per kg that you want fired.

Due to the capacity of our kiln and our growing number of students, we have had to put some restrictions in place. This is to ensure that your work can be stored safely, and that a manageable amount of work is handled by our Studio Assistants.

  • Drop-In students will be allowed to fill x1 board ( approximately 25cm x 40cm) in each session. It is difficult for us to accommodate production throwers, but we would be happy to recommend studios that allow for higher volumes of work.

  • To keep our kiln happy, we cannot allow work made elsewhere to be brought in for firing, or any of your own clay or glazes to be used.

  • There's a maximum limit of one hand built plate per person per six week period (due to kiln restrictions), however you are welcome to make multiples of other pieces e.g. cups or bowls.

Our Drop In sessions are all about creating time to practice your skills and are not the space for teaching others. If you or a friend needs teaching guidance then our teacher led Drop In's or one of our courses would be the perfect place.  This way, everyone can enjoy the studio at their own pace.

To avoid disappointment, we recommend booking your Drop-In Sessions in advance, as they fill up very quickly. If something unexpected crops up and you cannot attend, we are able to allow transfers to other dates up until 14 days prior to the date of your original booking. We are unable to offer a transfer if it is outside of this time frame. The session times are also fixed, and we cannot offer discounts for those who wish to attend part of a session.

All of our drop-ins are for adults only, unless specified in the listing.
