About the Course
This course is designed as a focussed three weeks of wheel throwing for improvers who want to push their skills to the next level or beginners with an interest in throwing. Your skilled teacher which will take you through the basics of throwing from centring, pulling cylinders and bowls, to more advanced techniques of such as throwing thinner, collaring in or lidded jars. The emphasis will be on practice and reviewing technique which involves cutting open your pieces to examine the walls. You will be encouraged to throw more and keep less, the best way to learn quickly! It is suitable either for complete beginners or intermediate level throwers.
The course is structured so that each week focuses on a different technique, but we also place a lot of emphasis on practice and experimenting with clay. The last week will be a combination of trimming and wheel throwing. Students are welcome to book a drop in to continue working on finishing their pieces to be kept for firing. We hope that our students come away feeling like they have learnt some new skills, had fun, and hopefully made some new friends too.
Glazing will not be covered in the course however you can always book into with us for a one off glazing drop in to finish your pieces yourself. Otherwise your pieces will all be glazed in the SkandiHus gloss white glaze by our Studio team and ready for you to collect 6-8 weeks after your course has finished.
If you are interested in a focused learning environment in which to advance your skills and learn some new techniques, then we can provide this for you through our professional and skilled team of teachers. Our classes can also be a great opportunity to meet new people, relax, drink tea, and indulge in some meditative making surrounded by plants and creative energy.
About the Teacher
Violaine teaches our weekend Taster Classes and longer Courses at both studios, including our Intermediate course at the Clapton studio. She is enthusiastic and excited by all things clay, and is keen to share her knowledge with everyone starting their ceramics journey with us.
A graphic designer by trade, her own ceramics journey began as a creative outlet during the evenings as escapism from her pixel-led life, and swiftly became one of her deepest passions. Now part of a makers’ studio in North London, not a day goes by when she doesn’t make, think, dream, or talk about ceramics. Her work is inspired by the rustic pottery of her native France, and she has a keen interest in functional ceramics.
Her classes are light-hearted and playful, and she aims to help students reconnect with their inner creativity – hopefully leaving everyone wanting to play with clay again very soon.
A student said “Violaine’s intuition and invitation to feel the clay was incredible! A great energy in the studio and a sensory delight of an experience!” -We absolutely agree!

Please select ‘local pickup’ at checkout if you would like to avoid delivery fees and collect the apron in your first class.
What if I miss a class?
It is not a problem at all to miss a class or two throughout the course period. We ask that all students try their best to attend the first two sessions, as these are difficult to catch up on if missed, but we understand that you may have other commitments throughout the weeks, and your teacher will ensure that you are caught up on everything that you have missed when you return. Please note that we cannot accommodate students making up missed classes at other times, nor can we allow students to swap their classes once the course has started, because our classes run at full capacity.
A small note on sustainability & values

Refund Policy
We’re a small, ethically run business - which means we pay our lovely team properly and keep our courses as accessible as possible. To make that work, we offer refunds up to 28 days before the start of your course. After that, refunds aren’t possible — so please do a happy little calendar dance before booking to double-check your dates!
That said, life happens! If things go sideways:
🤍 Up to 28 days before your course, you can receive a full refund.
🤍 Between 28 and 14 days before, no refunds — but you can swap your booking to another course.
🤍 Inside 14 days, no swaps or refunds — but you’re welcome to gift your spot to a mate or family member (spread the clay joy!).
Why so strict?
Each week, we get heaps of last-minute change requests. If we said yes to all of them, we’d have to choose between cutting staff wages or hiking prices — and both options would make us really sad. By sticking to this policy, we keep things fair, keep our team happy, and keep our studios thriving.
Thanks for understanding — we can’t wait to get making with you! 🤍✨🤍
