Wednesday Evening Pottery Class | 28th May - 16th July 2025 | 6:30-9:00pm | 8 Weeks | All Levels | N1 Studio | £300 plus £5 per kg clay you want fired | Teacher: Lesia Inak Price

About the Course

This course covers all skills from hand building and wheel throwing, to surface decoration and glazing, and is suitable either for complete beginners or intermediate level makers. The course is structured so that each week focuses on a different technique, but we also place a lot of emphasis on time for practice and experimenting with clay. Click here to read our course structure and get an idea of what you might be doing each week. We hope that our students come away feeling like they have learnt some new skills, had fun, and hopefully made some new friends too.

The pace of the course is entirely down to you - if you are interested in a focused learning environment in which to advance your skills and learn some new techniques, then we can provide this for you through our professional and skilled team of teachers. Our classes can also be a great opportunity to meet new people, relax, drink tea, and indulge in some meditative making surrounded by plants and creative energy.

About the Teacher

Lesia’s first introduction to clay was here at SkandiHus. Whilst working an office job and searching for a way to express herself creatively, she signed up for an evening course and the rest is history. Lesia worked for many years as a studio assistant with us, and has now come full circle and joined the teaching team.

She studied Geography at University and pursued a career in the charity sector before taking a more artistic turn. Now part of a makers studio in South London, Lesia is working on her own pieces focusing on wheel-thrown tableware. She pursues a minimal aesthetic while still taking influence from traditional techniques.

Enthusiastic, friendly and calm, Lesia aims to help new students find their inner artist and experiment with the clay.  She believes in the importance of a creative escape beyond work that allows us to express ourselves and switch off from the outside world. She is excited by seeing her student’s projects and passing on her love of pottery to them.

Meet our team and learn more about your teacher.

Materials

We will provide all materials throughout the course. Clay is charged at £5 per kg of clay you would like fired. All of our students use our buff stoneware clay, and have access to a full range of tools, slips, moulds, and use of our SkandiHus glazes, which are mixed in-house and used by our founder, Stine, for her own work.

See our range of glazes available.

What to Bring

Please bring clothes that can get dirty, creative energy and ideas!

We will send you our student handbook a few days prior to the start of the course, with all the information that you need to know. You are welcome to bring your own apron, or you can purchase a SkandiHus apron here. Please select ‘local pickup’ at checkout if you would like to avoid delivery fees and collect the apron in your first class.

What if I miss a class?

It is not a problem at all to miss a class or two throughout the course period. We ask that all students try their best to attend the first two sessions, as these are difficult to catch up on if missed, but we understand that you may have other commitments throughout the weeks, and your teacher will ensure that you are caught up on everything that you have missed when you return. Please note that we cannot accommodate students making up missed classes at other times, nor can we allow students to swap their classes once the course has started, because our classes run at full capacity.

A small note on sustainability & values

We do our best to keep things gentle on the planet—recycling materials, using renewable energy, and keeping waste to a minimum. You can help too by reusing your course materials where possible and bringing your own packaging when collecting finished pieces.

We believe business can be a force for good—so alongside running joyful, creative studios, we’re committed to doing things properly:

– Paying all staff London Living Wage or above

– Keeping our spaces kind, inclusive and stress-free

– Supporting causes like the ARC food bank and Ella’s, a charity helping survivors of trafficking

– Donating profits from unclaimed pots to charity

– Planting trees each year with One Tree Planted

Where

SkandiHus, 90 De Beauvoir Road, London, N1 4EN.

Our newly renovated De Beauvoir Studio located in vibrant Dalston is a short walk away from both Haggerston and Dalston Station, as well as Essex Road.

Refund Policy

All of our longer courses are exchangeable up until 28 days prior to the start of the course. After this, you are able to change your booking to a different course for a £20 admin fee. Please note that from 14 days prior to the start of the course, your booking is non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

Our refund policy is strict because it enables us to pay our staff a fair wage, and remain accessible as a studio. Each week we get 8-10 requests and if we were to accommodate each one, we would be forced to lower our staff wages or increase our prices - both of which we really want to avoid. We hope you understand that this is why there are no exemptions to our refund policies.
