Clay & Play Family Session | Sunday Afternoon Drop-In (With Teacher) | 1:30-4:00pm | All Ages | E17 Studio | £30 plus £5 per kg clay you want fired
Join us at our Walthamstow studio for a fun filled Sunday afternoon of making, suitable for all ages. These sessions allow for unstructured clay play for children and guardians, under the guidance of our teacher. Use this time to let your imaginations run free or ask our teacher for inspiration and making demonstrations.
These sessions are for hand building or having a go on our mini wheels (there will be no access to the regular wheels).
Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a guardian, who will also need a ticket if they want to participate, or they are welcome to hang out in the studio with a book and a cuppa during the class. Our teachers are not DBS checked and therefore children should not be left unattended at the studio.
We hope that everyone comes away feeling like they have had fun and hopefully made some new friends too.
Due to the capacity of our kiln and our growing number of students, we have had to put some restrictions in place. This is to ensure that your work can be stored safely, and that a manageable amount of work is handled by our Studio Assistants.
Drop-In students will be allowed to fill x1 board ( approximately 25cm x 40cm) in each session.
To keep our kiln happy, we cannot allow work made elsewhere to be brought in for firing, or any of your own clay or glazes to be used.
There's a maximum limit of one hand built plate per person per six week period (due to kiln restrictions), however you are welcome to make multiples of other pieces e.g. cups or bowls.
Materials
We will provide all materials throughout the sessions. Air dry clay is used so pieces can be taken away on the day. Please note the air dry clay is not waterproof or food safe. Kiln fired clay is available on request. Clay is charged at £5 per kg of clay you would like fired or to take away. All of our students have access to a full range of tools, slips, moulds, and use of our SkandiHus glazes, which are mixed in-house and used by our founder, Stine, for her own work.
See our range of glazes available.
What to Bring
Please bring clothes that can get dirty, creative energy and ideas!
We will send you our student handbook a few days prior to the start of the course, with all the information that you need to know. You are welcome to bring your own apron, or you can purchase a SkandiHus apron here. Please select ‘local pickup’ at checkout if you would like to avoid delivery fees and collect the apron in your first class.
Booking
To avoid disappointment, we recommend booking your Drop-In Sessions in advance, as they fill up very quickly. If something unexpected crops up and you cannot attend, we are able to allow transfers to other dates up until 14 days prior to the date of your original booking. We are unable to offer a transfer if it is outside of this timeframe. The session times are also fixed, and we cannot offer discounts for those who wish to attend part of a session.
If you have any questions about our Drop-In Sessions, please get in touch with our Office Manager via email at officemanager@skandihus.co.uk.
A small note on sustainability & values
We do our best to keep things gentle on the planet—recycling materials, using renewable energy, and keeping waste to a minimum. You can help too by reusing your course materials where possible and bringing your own packaging when collecting finished pieces.
We believe business can be a force for good—so alongside running joyful, creative studios, we’re committed to doing things properly:
– Paying all staff London Living Wage or above
– Keeping our spaces kind, inclusive and stress-free
– Supporting causes like the ARC food bank and Ella’s, a charity helping survivors of trafficking
– Donating profits from unclaimed pots to charity
– Planting trees each year with One Tree Planted
Where
SkandiHus, 11 Hatherley Mews, London, E17 4QP.
Our newly opened Walthamstow studio sits on a charming cobbled mews and is a short walk from both Walthamstow Central and Queen’s Road.
Refund Policy
We’re a small, ethically run business - which means we pay our lovely team properly and keep our courses as accessible as possible. To make that work, we offer refunds up to 28 days before the start of your course. After that, refunds aren’t possible — so please do a happy little calendar dance before booking to double-check your dates!
That said, life happens! If things go sideways:
🤍 Up to 28 days before your course, you can receive a full refund.
🤍 Between 28 and 14 days before, no refunds — but you can swap your booking to another course.
🤍 Inside 14 days, no swaps or refunds — but you’re welcome to gift your spot to a mate or family member (spread the clay joy!).
Why so strict?
Each week, we get heaps of last-minute change requests. If we said yes to all of them, we’d have to choose between cutting staff wages or hiking prices — and both options would make us really sad. By sticking to this policy, we keep things fair, keep our team happy, and keep our studios thriving.
Thanks for understanding — we can’t wait to get making with you! 🤍✨🤍
