One of the nicest things about pottery is that it takes time.
There are the skills of throwing, trimming, making, glazing and waiting. Things don't always work the first time, and sometimes the pieces that don't quite go to plan end up being the most interesting. We see these as happy accidents and the best way to learn how to work with clay.
Regular studio time gives you the chance to experiment a little more and practice. Perhaps you want to make a set of cups rather than just one, or you have been trying to perfect a particular shape on the wheel? Or perhaps you have an idea that has been sitting in the back of your mind for a while and you finally have the time to make it.
Our drop-in sessions are designed for exactly this.
There is something rather lovely about having a few uninterrupted hours in the studio. No particular project to finish, no course to keep up with, just some time with clay and the freedom to see where it takes you. This is what we love about our drop-in sessions at Skandihus. Once you have learnt the basics of working with clay, it is nice to have a space where you can return to your own ideas, practise a technique you have been meaning to try, or simply sit at the wheel and make something.
Our drop-in pottery sessions are designed as more independent studio time rather than a taught class. You can bring along your own ideas and projects and work at your own pace. If you need a little helping hand just join a teacher led session where you can ask advice and guidance from our knowledgeable teachers.
Sometimes you arrive knowing exactly what you want to make.
Sometimes you sit down at the wheel and have absolutely no idea.
Both are good, just follow the clay.
At each of our studios, in Walthamstow, Hackney and De Beauvoir, we have a range of drop-in sessions available so you can find one that works for you. Morning or evening, weekday or weekend. We are here to welcome you.
